Odeon, Kensington

The brief from the client was the construction of new luxury penthouse apartments in the heart of Kensington as well a number of affordable housing units totalling 132,000 ft² of accommodation, all located behind a retained façade.

In addition to the apartments, the site also included the shell of a new multiplex 5,060 ft² Odeon cinema plus extensive underground car parking facilities.

Mecserve provided a co-ordinated design for the building services works to the apartments and common parts, as well as ensuring the incoming services and plant requirements to the cinema complex were adequate for the later fitting-out works. Each apartment was designed to be as self-contained as possible with respect to the building services.

Services to the apartments included coordination of the main services distribution, the design procurement of specialist designers for the comfort cooling, integrated control, intelligent lighting, audio/visual control and IT systems. Additional services undertaken consisted of ground source heating and cooling, fully boosted domestic hot and cold water, comfort cooling via heat pumps (water cooled VRF installation), gas supplies to flame effect fires/kitchen, security systems, landlord’s CCTV and entry/access control.
