Ricardo was contracted to produce an engine for a new British supercar and required a new engine assembly plant with ten engine assembly stations and an engine test cell.
Built at Ricardo's existing facility at Shoreham-on-Sea, work also included the demolition of existing buildings to allow the new engine assembly plant to be built, providing a total of 7,500 ft² of accommodation.
It was important to Ricardo to maintain a clean, well-lit environment within which high performance engines could be assembled and viewed by customers from the mezzanine walkway. Mecserve was responsible for the detailed design of the services.
The mechanical services comprised a displacement ventilation system with high-level radiant heating; a compressed air ring main; domestic water services for refurbished toilets. The electrical services comprised new mains and sub mains distribution; lighting; power; fire alarms link to the existing site system; security systems.
Site services were extended from existing services on the site. A new sub-station was required for the Dyno Drive on the engine test cell.
